We want to lead the industry in recycling and environmental protection and use a large proportion of recycled content in many of the products we manufacture.

Plastic is a flexible material that is essential to our lives and plays a critical role in sustainable infrastructure – but it must be used in the right way. For too long and by too many, plastic has been discarded, polluting our Earth and waterways.

We take plastic destined for landfill and recycle it to create long-lasting infrastructure for construction, civil water management, rainwater solutions and other critical components of the built environment. It is just one part of our commitment to creating a more circular economy.

We are also working with partners to help shape the regulatory agenda to enable more recycling to be used in innovative ways; but our ambition doesn’t stop there. We’re researching new, sustainable low-embedded carbon materials to deliver on our climate reduction commitments and use of modern advanced raw materials.

Investing in processing of end of life

Our Horncastle site is home to the Group’s largest investment in recycling, with our wash plant facility that processes thousands of tonnes of post consumer waste such as plastic milk cartons, detergent bottles and other HDPE products. The facility converts that ‘waste’ into pipe systems which have design lives in excess of one hundred years, addressing real societal needs, and underpinning our position as leading the European piping industry in terms of use of recycled polymers.

Wash & Squash

Polypipe Civils & Green Urbanisation runs a recycling programme with a local school near to its manufacturing site in Horncastle. Children of the school take in their washed and squashed milk bottles which are then picked up by Polypipe to be recycled through its polymer processing plant, and the plastic is re-used in developing products to support major infrastructure projects across the country. As well as being the largest user of recyclate among our peers, we are committed to promoting the benefits of a circular economy.
