Our growth drivers shape the way we lead our business. From our strategy, to our innovation, we’re focusing on the things that matter, to our customers, society and the future of our built environment. Find out how in our inaugural Sustainability Report.

They are largely grouped into two key themes: how we adapt to, and mitigate, the effects of climate change. Around the world, there is increasing demand for better cooling and ventilation, as the climate warms, cities need to create more green spaces to combat the urban heat island effect and towns need better attenuation of stormwater runoff as we experience more extreme weather events.

Explore our growth drivers…

The increasing need for drainage

Increased, unexpected and more frequent ‘weather events’ are testing the limits of conventional drainage and sewage. Adapting to climate change will require innovative flood water drainage systems better suited to a warmer and wetter world.

The need for green urbanisation

Population growth has led to rapid expansion and concretisation of our cities, compromising more of our urban spaces. Coupled with the impact of climate change, our cities are now suffering from urban heat island effect, increased surface water runoff and a reduction in green spaces. Recognising the need to green our cities, to make the places we work, live and play resilient and healthy, provides additional opportunities for more sophisticated solutions and packages which address drainage, carbon, and biodiversity resilience.

The increased focus on clean, healthy air

Now more than ever the issue of air quality and air pollution dominates public concern and drives government policy. Covid-19 has only exacerbated the public health issue, increasing the relevance of ventilation and airflow management as well as virus eradication. As the sector looks to improve indoor air quality to create healthy and breathable environments, it will look to the supply chain for those innovative solutions.

The increased demand for low carbon solutions

The built environment accounts for approximately 40% of the UK’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and in terms of operational carbon, heating and cooling are the largest contributors. We not only have an opportunity in reducing the carbon impact of our customers through our practices, but also through the product technologies we develop. As the sector moves away from gas boilers to low energy/carbon heat sources at lower temperatures, it opens opportunities in specific application for us to capitalise.

Structural industry drivers

Construction industries around the globe are challenged with the way they build the places we live, work and play. From making them safe and healthy, to finding ways to reduce their environmental impact or dealing with skills or housing shortages, we are helping our customers build our built environments.
